The Small Animal House

We have a selection of rabbits and other small animals currently looking for new homes. Not all of the animals are featured below - some of the gerbils and hamsters are a little camera shy! Please visit the small animal house to meet all the animals.

RODNEY

Photo of Rodney the Russian hamster

 Breed  Sex  Age  Neutered
Russian Dwarf Hamster  Male  14 months  No
 History and Recommendations
Rodney is a confident hamster but has not been used to being handled and may nip if picked up. Because of this it would be best if he went to a home with children over the age of ten, preferably to an owner who has had previous experience of owning or handling hamsters not used to being handled, particularly Russian hamsters. Rodney is an inquisitive hamster who likes to explore his surroundings so will need a home where he has plenty of space. Rodney would make a rewarding pet for someone who would be willing to spend time socialising him and getting him used to being handled.

 Breed  Sex  Age  Neutered
 Cross  Male  1 year  No
 History and Recommendations
Regal came to the shelter as a stray so we do not know much about his history. He is a friendly, confident rabbit who seems used to being handled and enjoys human company. Regal is very inquisitive and likes to explore his surroundings so will need to go to a home where he has plenty of space to roam around in. Regal would suit a home where he will receive regular handling and plenty of attention and would make a rewarding pet for someone who is looking for a lively addition to their household.

RACHEL & RADDISH

Photo of two rabbits

 Breed  Sex  Age  Neutered
Rabbit - cross breed  Female  3 years  No
 History and Recommendations
Rachel and Raddish are nervous rabbits who may struggle when being handled and tend to hide away when approached. Because of this they will need to go to a home with adults only or to a family whose children have had experience of owning and handling nervous rabbits. Rachel and Raddish are sisters and are extremely close so we are looking for home for them to remain together. With regular, gentle socialisation they should become more confident and easier to handle.

SHERBET

Photo of Sherbet rabbit

 Breed  Sex  Age  Neutered
Cashmere Lop Cross  Female  3 years  No
 History and Recommendations
Sherbet is a feisty rabbit who does not like being handled although she is friendly when approached. Because of this it would be best if she went to a home with children over the age of ten or to a family whose children have had experience of handling feisty rabbits. Sherbet is long-haired and her fur has become so badly matted in the past that she has had to be shaved so she will need an owner who will groom her daily and keep her coat in the best condition possible. Sherbet is full of character and would make a rewarding pet for someone who would be prepared to give her the regular handling and grooming she requires.

Willis is a lively young rabbit who will need plenty of space to roam around in.  History and Recommendations
Milly, Molly & Mandy are confident rats but are not used to being handled and can nip when being picked up. Because of this it would be best if they went to a home with adults only or to a family whose children have had previous experience of owning or handling rats. Milly, Molly & Mandy have been brought up together and are very close so we would like to home them together but they can have the odd minor disagreement (especially over food!) so would need to go to a home where they will have enough space to get away from each other if they need to. Milly, Molly & Mandy are full of character and would make rewarding pets for someone who knows what owning rats involves.

PHIL

Photo of Phil the ferret

 Breed  Sex  Age  Neutered
 Ferret  Male  1.5 years  No
 History and Recommendations
Phil came into the shelter as a stray so we have no knowledge of his history. He seems extremely friendly and appears used to being handled. Phil is very lively and likes to go for walks on a harness so he will need to go to a home where he will have lots of space and where he will get regular exercise. It would be beneficial if Phils' new owners have had experience of owning and handling ferrets or they have researched them and know what requirements ferrets have. Phil is a friendly affectionate ferret who is full of character and would make a rewarding pet for someone who is looking for a lively new addition to their household.

GINO

Photo of Gino the guinea pig

 Breed  Sex  Age  Neutered
Guinea Pig  Male  2 years  No
 History and Recommendations
Gino was brought into HULA as a stray so we have no knowledge of his history. He seems to be a slightly timid guinea pig who may run away when approached but settles down once he is being handled. Because of Gino's initial nervousness it would be best if he went to a home with children over the age of eight or to a family whose children have had previous experience of owning or handling guinea pigs. Gino would make a rewarding pet for someone who would be willing to give him plenty of gentle socialisation and handling and help him overcome his initial nervousness.
